Content is useless without this one thing.

in Content marketing

Content in and of itself is useless. Spend five minutes searching online and you get pages and pages of content. Much of what you get is useless. It’s not what you you’re looking for. Sometimes not even close. So you spend more time refining your search hoping to get the content that solves your problems. Or answers your questions. We’ve all done it many times. Your customers do to. So how do you make content useful? Provide the context.

Context adds clarity and meaning to the content. It provides the framework around which your customers can put the content to use. Think about how you can make sense of all that content online for your customers. That’s what will drive traffic to your site. That’s what provides the foundation they’ll engage with you. And keep coming back.

What kind of context can you offer? Aggregate the content in your niche in one stop. Provide the high-level overview with supporting facts readers can drill down if they want. Provide the links to further reading without them having to do another search. That’s just one approach. Always think about how you can add context to the content that your customers want.

Are you wondering what they’re looking for? Use Wordtracker’s keyword search tool or Google’s free keyword tool for suggestions. Then provide the context around it. And make your content worth something.

Hi there,

I just wanted to let you know that Wordtracker also has a couple of free tools that you might find useful – the free keywords tool at:

http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com

will offer up to 100 results on a seed term, and the Keyword Questions tool at:

http://labs.wordtracker.com/keyword-questions/

will let you know the questions that people are asking via search, which can be a good starting point for writing articles, as can the SEO Blogger, which is a Firefox plug in which you can use in conjunction with your blog page to optimise your writing as you go – this can be found at:

http://labs.wordtracker.com/seo-blogger

I hope these are helpful, but if you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact us at support@wordtracker.com

Cheers,

Mal Darwen

Mal:

Thanks for head’s up. I wasn’t aware of some of these tools. I really appreciate the content you guys deliver in your e-newsletter – particularly the articles by Rachel Money.
